Immunotherapy around surgery for non-small cell lung cancer
Longer survival in one large randomized trial.
What studies found
In KEYNOTE-671, pembrolizumab added to chemotherapy before surgery and continued afterward gave 36-month survival of 71% versus 64% with chemotherapy alone, in 797 patients with operable cancer.
The catch
The survival benefit has been confirmed in one trial so far.
What to do
If your cancer can be operated on, ask whether immunotherapy before and after surgery fits your tumor.
