High omega-3, low omega-6 diet with fish oil

Lowered a tumor growth marker in men on surveillance.

TreatmentWith your doctor

What studies found

In CAPFISH-3 (100 men), a year of less fried and processed food, more fatty fish and fish oil capsules cut the Ki-67 growth index by 15%, while it rose 24% in controls.

The catch

No change in grade, tumor length, genomic score or PSA. Four men stopped due to fish oil side effects. Needs a larger trial.

What to do

Eating more fish and fewer fried foods is sensible; discuss fish oil capsules with your urologist.
